Acorn Aqua Develops a 100 Percent Lead Free Bubbler Retrofit Kit for School Drinking Fountains
Los Angeles, CA -- April 28, 2010 -- Acorn Aqua®, manufacturer of quality stainless steel water coolers, drinking fountains and chillers and a division of Acorn Engineering Company, announces a 100 percent lead-free bubbler retrofit kit as an immediate solution for retrofitting schools to lead-free standards.
Many school districts and facility managers across the United States are under pressure to act quickly in replacing lead-leaching drinking fountains, despite the state’s aging school infrastructure and limited budget. Short of wholesale demolition and rebuilding, the logical response is to steadily upgrade inefficient plumbing fixtures to minimize the harmful effects these lead levels can have on our children’s health.
Acorn Engineering Company, a global leader in custom-engineered plumbing products for environmentally responsible applications, developed a solution with its division Acorn Aqua®: A simple yet effective new 100 percent lead-free bubbler kit. Ready today for installation, the bubbler retrofit kit fits easily into the existing faucet housing. Better still, it offers the added benefit of reduced labor costs because facility managers do not have to remove fountains from walls, a prohibitive expense for the district.
“We created a stainless steel bubbler with additional components made of heavy duty food-grade plastic to deliver the best possible protection against any lead leaching. Absolutely no permeability. Affordable too.” says Bob Bowles, National Sales Manager of Acorn Aqua.
All Acorn Aqua drinking fountains, including the stainless steel bubbler, meet California’s AB1953 mandate, and the National Sanitary Foundation standard (NSF/ANSI Standard 61), which requires that any manufactured product comply with a very small maximum weighted average lead content requirement under new state laws. Acorn Aqua’s 100 percent lead-free bubbler option is the safest and most cost-effective choice; the district is thereby able to ensure the safety of its students while at the same time conserving water and reducing man hours.

Murdock Classic Drinking Fountain and AcornVac Vacuum Plumbing System a part of GreenSource Cincinnati's LEED Gold Certified resource center
Cincinnati, OH -- April 25, 2010 -- GreenSource Cincinnati, created by Monroe Mechanical, is meant “To inspire the Midwest building community with energy efficient, sustainable technologies.” Over 50 technology partners were hand-selected to display their green products “in action” as part of a resource center for viable green options in today’s commercial construction. A Murdock Classic Drinking Fountain and the AcornVac Vacuum Plumbing System were two of those chosen to proudly complete this LEED Gold Certified building.
As a LEED Gold Certified building, GreenSource Cincinnati is available to architects, engineers, building owners, property managers, data center managers—anyone involved in the growing green technologies marketplace. AcornVac was also the best solution to retrofit for water savings, since its flexible, above-ground design required very little disturbance to the building and results in an overall water use reduction of up to 68 percent. Murdock’s Classic Design was chosen because of its 80% recycled material as well as its lead-free and low-flow engineering. What’s more, Murdock’s traditional model dates back to 1853, and blends in perfectly with the building’s historical setting. The GreenSource Cincinnati Grand Opening and ribbon-cutting event takes place March 18th, 2010.
"The Murdock fountain we installed on the GreenRoof captures part of the history we were trying to preserve at GreenSource."—Will Housh - COO
"The advantage of the AcornVac system is evident in the small amount of water used per flush. At GreenSource Cincinnati we are focused on reducing our usage of environmental resources, especially water."—Mark Vincent - Monroe’s Plumbing, Supervisor & 30 year industry veteran.
