Morris Group International (MGI): Where did you grow up? What was your adolescent experience like?

caddyshack gopher and Bill MurraySteve Stone (SS): Moved from Chicago as a kid to Colorado. My Father was a pipefitter and was transferred to Colorado to run a company. Childhood was great. Worked at a golf course from age 10 till I could join the union at 16 to work as a pipefitter. Worked construction through high school and college. My first science project at age 8 was the plumbing of a house so I suppose I was destined to stay in the industry

MGI: What was the first contract you signed? Can you remember how you felt? How you celebrated?

SS
: Letter of intent for my football scholarship to college. It felt great and a relief.  I celebrated with my friends doing a bunch of beer bongs.

MGI: What’s on your iPod?

SS
: Social Distortion, Bad Religion,  Mary Poppins

Pool CleaningMGI: What was your very first job? Did you learn any valuable lessons or tools that you have brought with you into your current career?

SS: Age 6. My dad got me a job cleaning at the local pool 3 days a week with my sister. We cleaned the tiles on the pool edge and picked up trash in the park. I learned that working at age 6 sucks and people left a lot of cool stuff while drinking in the park at night.

MGI: When did you become interested in working in the industry? How did you get started in the plumbing industry?

SS: I was born into kinda. Been doing it most of my life and have enjoyed every minute of it.

Wedding AdviceMGI: What is the best piece of advice you ever received and who gave it to you?

SS: My dad on my wedding day. “screw up early and often Stephen. She won’t expect a hell of a lot from you”

MGI: If time travel was possible, where would you go and why? (You cannot choose the future because it hasn’t happened yet and there is the possibility you may have to stay put wherever you travel to… So answer wisely.)

SS: 1950’s Most of the rep firms seem to be starting up then and it was really the beginning of our industry as manufactures reps.

MGI: Name three people you would love to have lunch with? (Living, dead, famous, infamous, unknown…)

SS: Bill Clinton. His party stories have to be awesome.  Knute Rockne… Hear early football stories.   My great grandfather James Moran. It would be great to understand the family and early life in Ireland

MGI: What are your future goals? (Career, education, travel, etc.)

SS: Raise my two kids and  get them well educated .  Continue to build Shyne Associates for a many years to come.  Be adopted by Don Morris.
